Creative Writing for Children with Anxiety

A lot of the children who attend our weekly workshops at The WRITE STUFF Kids Club are relating back to me that they are finding an inner strength from being able to use their imagination freely. They draw/write stories and when introduced to story cubes, they just allow themselves to become free and just let go creatively. It really is a joy to watch.

In November this year I hosted my first creative writing workshop aimed specifically at children with anxiety. This explored simple exercises with words about the self. Nothing negative was allowed to be talked about or written down. It simply encouraged the children involved to engage in what they are good at, and what was good about them. The kids began to unwind as the session was underway and they began creating on the page.

At the end of this session, the children all gave a ‘thumbs up’ that they enjoyed the two hours.

Creativity is beneficial in so many ways. Expressing oneself on the page is allowing children to engage with another aspect of themselves and this in turn is allowing them to build confidence in who they are.

We are running another Creative Writing workshop designed specifically to focus on Anxiety and low self-esteem on Thursday 2nd January at Warrenview Manor in Muff. This is aimed at children aged 6-12 years. Booking can be made via The WRITE STUFF Kids Club facebook page, by email: thewritestuff@eircom.net or by texting Grainne on 0863148541.
