The Ballroom Boys coming to Derry

An Evening of Dance, Song, and Banter!

Strictly boys unite for 2019 UK and Ireland tour…

BBC Strictly Come Dancing’s favourite male professionals, Ian Waite and Vincent Simone are joining together for the very first time in their brand new production – The Ballroom Boys, a show they say is going to be “a lot of fun!” as the title suggests!  The show arrives at the Millennium Forum on 6th June 2019.  Tickets are now on sale from the Box Office.

Neither Waite or Simone are strangers to life on the road, with It Takes Two regular Ian having done several tours with former dance partners Camilla Sacre-Dallerup, Natalie Lowe, and most recently Oti Mabuse. While Strictly’s original and best-loved Italian, Vincent, has graced theatres up and down the country with Flavia Cacace in their Argentine Tango inspired shows.

So it really was a delight to have my morning coffee chatting to Ian Waite this morning. Just why and more so how, did The Ballroom Boys come to be? “I’ve danced the past 3 years with girls from Strictly” said Waite, “and I thought that it’d be great to have a show with just two boys. Something to showcase the old school Strictly. Vincent was on holiday at the time and I phoned him with the idea. He loved it, and The Ballroom Boys were born. That call was made in May last year.” Now, just one year later, the boys are currently underway with their UK and Ireland tour.

How is the tour going I ask Ian? “It’s going absolutely brilliant”, he tells me. “The audience reaction is just fantastic. Vincent is one of the funniest men I know. We are just having such fun on stage.”

I wondered if shows such as Strictly allow for more career opportunities now for dancers like Waite and Simone. Waite confirmed that it does indeed. “Yes, it definitely does. It has opened new avenues for all of us. I and Natalie Lowe also have Fit Steps which is now all over the UK. This encourages dancing in your living room and getting fit with dance. We’re all doing Panto this year, so there’s many new avenues available to us all.”

What makes The Ballroom Boys show so popular? Many of the shows are currently sold out. Most others are near sold out. “It’s just something new” Ian says. “It showcases different kinds of romance, and it’s a wholesome, fun show. It has the ‘feel good factor’ and it’s Saturday night entertainment at it’s best. In a way it’s a form of escapism from the dreary world we sometimes live in.”

The Ballroom Boys comes to Derry on 6th June. I asked Ian Waite why people should come out and see the show? “It’s a great variety show. It’s not just dancing, it’s telling stories and it’s a real feel good show. There’s a very funny dance with Vincent and myself too.”

Ian also told me the ladies we can expect to see dancing with them on the Derry stage will be Crystal Main and Ksenia Zsikhotska.

There will be Waltz, Quickstep, Paso Doble, Foxtrot and of course the Argentine Tango! It’s set to be a high intensity evening of glitz and glamour with Ian and Vincent at the helm.

The Ballroom Boys will perform at the Millennium Forum on 6th June 2019.  Ticket are now available from the Box Office. Telephone 71 264455 or visit millenniumforum.co.uk for bookings.
